Who are we?

The RLCC is a non-profit group, operating under auspices of the Township of Rideau Lakes.  Membership in this camera club is open to anyone interested in the art and science of photography upon payment of annual dues, whether or not they reside in the township. Home

What are our goals?

Our aim is to provide opportunities for photographers at all levels to meet and exchange ideas and information.

The RLCC encourages members to develop their photographic skills and we promote photography in general, for example, by contributing to township publications and other projects.

The camera club also works to exhibit and publicize the work of members. For example, during the summer of 2007 members held photography-on-the lawn exhibits/sales at the Chocolate and Railway festival in Smiths Falls and at the Rideau Ferry Regatta.

What do we do?

The RLCC meets once a month to conduct the kind of housekeeping business that any club has. The short business meetings are followed by a "program" consisting of a presentation, or discussion of a specific topic, or a hands-on practice session, or whatever camera club members dream up. (Our schedule is posted here.)

For example, we recently had presentations on both technical and practical aspects of various lenses, a talk on nature photography, a discussion of the use of Polaroid emulsion transfers as the basis for art works, and a round-table sharing of information about scenic opportunities through our region, a presentation on astrophotography, etc.

The camera club also organizes field trips to specific locations and then we can discuss and compare members' photos from those excursions. For example, a recent scouting expedition to a heronry was followed by a chili lunch, and on another occasion members went to Wolfe Island together.

In-between meetings, members can stay in touch through our Google group.

Who can join?

RLCC membership is open to all interested people, regardless of experience level. We welcome new camera club members from both inside and outside of the Twp of Rideau Lakes. We tend to have more digital camera users than film users, but there are no restrictions on type of camera used or type of preferred subject matter.

The annual camera club membership fee is $25. for an individual; $35. for a family, and $10. for full-time students. In addition to dues we collect $1 per person at each meeting to help cover hall rental. This loonie goes to the township. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before dues payment is required. Our membership year runs from September through August.
